BIKINI ATOLL!

Dear Experienced Diver,

    Here’s a repeat of a trip many of you have waited a lifetime to do!  Bikini  Atoll, part of the Marshall Island group in the South Pacific.  Between 1946 & 1954, the U. S. Government detonated several atomic bombs. The reason for the explosions was to determine the damage these bombs would cause on moored ships and near by animals and vegetation.  A long and sad history of the Bikinian people can be found at www.worldofdiving.com/html/bikinihistory.html.

    Today, with radiation  down to safe levels, experienced divers are making their way to one of the world’s foremost wreck destinations. The world’s only diveable aircraft carrier, the USS Saratoga, is among these wrecks! During the week, our dives will also include the famous Japanese battle ship, HIJMS Nagato, the attack transport USS Carlisle, the destroyer USS Anderson and the submarine USS Apogon!  Wrecks very few in the world have ever seen!

     You are receiving this flyer because you have expressed interest in this trip. The trip is limited to eleven experienced divers (50 dives or more).  The dives will all be decompression dives done on air with decompression times performed on 80% oxygen 20% nitrogen mixes.  Divers must have a minimum of a dual gas computer, recommended for decompression diving.  Standard sport models will not be acceptable.  Manufactures such as Oceanic, OMS and Dive Rite have models to fit this kind of diving.  Also mandatory is a technical quality BCD that has a lift capacity of 45lbs or greater, dual lights, dual regulator set ups, etc. will also be needed.  Equipment discussions and possible training for the trip will be discussed at a later date.

    Those of  us already  booked are flying Continental from Newark to Honlulu on May 11th. We will overnight in Hono and continue on to Majuro on May 12th, arriving in Majuro on May 13. We will overnight in Majuro and fly to Bikini on May 14th. We will depart Bikini on May 21 and arrive home to Newark on May 22.

   The cost for the entire trip, including the hotel overnights, dive package, meals on Bikini, flights, etc. will run about $4500.00-$5200.00 per person.  In order to secure your spot on this very limited trip, I will need a $1000.00, non refundable deposit now and a payment schedule will be developed for the balance.  I will have available trip insurance if you think you may have to cancel, as money is non refundable for flights, and land arrangements are non refundable unless another diver can be found to take your place.  Again, this is a once in a lifetime trip!
